Hi, I am having trouble finding current conditions on Golden Ears. Any links to sites with current snow levels, route info, etc would be appreciated. We are hoping to camp at Panorama Ridge and make a summmit attempt the next day.1.

Golden

How is the snow pack just now?2. Is there any avalanch hazard just now on the standard route?3.

I don't subscribe to the 'golden ears' concept. A listener is a listener is a listener. With a lot of experience in critical listening, the skill set becomes more attuned and nuanced, in the same way that a wine taster's nose and palette become more attuned and nuanced over time.

We will be bringing ice axes. Should we bring our crampons as well? Scrambling rope?4.

  • I forgot to mention the origin of the Whisky name for the trail. The trail was blazed by the Hume Clan before I joined the club. They just happened to have a wee bit of fine whisky along on their excursion and enjoyed their treasure beside one of the creeks feeding the North Alouette headwater.
  • Golden Ears may refer to. Golden ear, a term for a person with an above-standard sense of hearing; Golden Ears (mountain) a mountain in British Columbia. Golden Ears Provincial Park, a provincial park in British Columbia, Canada.

Should I bring my water filter or should we just pack water for the entire trip and melt snow for any extra we need?Any information or tips would be appreciated. Hello CameronA9A:Check out my report as of May.27/07 which is one week ago.Snow starts at the 8km mark from the trailhead, in places near the start of the ridge 9 km, it is quite steep and ice axe was definitely a requirement. Towards Mount Fail, just before the shelter was one of the most trickest.

We did go past there that day, but the following Wednesday Alan made it all the way to the summit. However soft snow on top of the harder snow base was getting soft and slushy, with high degree of risk of slipping. Avalanches are active, so one must take precaution and stay near the tops of ridges where possible.Caution.Regards. Quote: Originally posted by CameronA91Hi, 3.

Thanks.I carried enough water for my entire trip. Its your decision to melt snow.

20 minutes away from the trailhead, by Evans Creek, the water is pure and cold, good place to fill up.Crampons might not be too effective if snow is very soft, rope would be a good safety precaution depending on experience. Snow conditions could be so changeable you should expect anything.Regards.

Left the carpark at about 6pm Friday night, arrived at the mountain shelter on Panorama Ridge at 11:30pm. We were a bit slow moving in the dark. There was lots of snow from about km 8 onwards. We used ice axes across most of the ridge.

It seemed steeper in the dark. It was fun though.

Woke up Saturday morning to rain, wind, and low visibility. We tried to wait it out for a few hours but it kept up so we descended. Visibility was about 5-7m so we decided not to bother with the summit. Two of my tent poles actually got bent a little by the fierce wind.

There is a lot of snow on Panorama Ridge. At least 8 feet of dense pack.A good but very wet trip. We will go back later this year.

Panorama Ridge is definitely a nicer camping spot than Alder Flats. Quote: Originally posted by CameronA91So, we went. Left the carpark at about 6pm Friday night, arrived at the mountain shelter on Panorama Ridge at 11:30pm. We were a bit slow moving in the dark.
