For those of you who don't know Dark and Demon's Souls is heavily inspired by Miura's masterpiece Berserk.This is the same Guts Mode made famous in Demons Souls.
Been Running a Guts build since reading this post.My guts has no head piece, Llewellyn Armor, Hexer Gauntlets(they have the same sports tape look Guts has), and Benharts' boots. Also picked up Forbidden Sun, it hits like a mack truck and has saved me from getting bodied online. My SL is just below 160 and I'll probably keep it there.Weapons are The Crypt Blacksword, Sanctum Repeater CrossBow, and a pryomancy flame for the 'cannon' that is Forbidden Sun.
Works really well. Using only SoulGems to heal was weird at first but after you clear the Last Giant/Pursuer boss fights it's second nature. Never used Numbness or Resonant Flesh even though I invested in both INT and FTH to have better scaling with the Crypt Blacksword.I don't like Dark Souls 2 as much as Dark Souls(polarizing opinion I know) and the recent DLC didn't really pull me into playing again until I saw this post. Beat the DLC area as my version of 'Guts' and it was fun. Now I'm shelving Guts until the next 2 DLC areas are released. I'm glad you decided to take the challenge, I find it challenging enough to bring it to the next level of difficult while still retaining that feel good victory.No Estus was a hard rule that I put up, only because I was so used to it when I started that I always wanted to do it but eventually you get used to life gems, I like to think of it as fairy dust.I've been doing the extra challenge of not healing when in a fight, including boss fights and let me tell you. For bosses like Ruin Sentinels and Gargoyles, multiple enemies make that aspect super hard.
But once you beat that, it feels great just like Guts. Also gives me an excuse to use Blue and Red tearstone rings.I haven't been doing hex's either I prefer the straight strength of Guts but for the people who suggested it, it has its place in Guts' berserk armor and his darkness in his sword, but i made sure to put an appropriate, yet still convenient for boss fights, drawback.Haven't played the DLC yet but I've heard great things about it, hopefully it's a world worthy of Guts.
